Agricultural Waste to Energy:  The treatment of high strength agricultural waste is a core competency of Zero Energy Institute (ZEI).  By integrating state of the art fuel cell technology into our waste treatment systems, biogas is converted into environmentally friendly green electricity.   ZEI works with clients and applies best practices to determine the treatment option that is best suited for the application at hand.  ZEI provides general design, bid and build services, or can implement complete solutions including wastewater treatment systems using a Design-Build approach.   ZEI understands the schedule and budgetary demands of the private sector and works with clients to provide the best engineering value for their needs with expedited project delivery and cost competitive systems.

Fuel Cells:  ZEI solutions include low and high temperature fuel cell technology.  Large and small volume generators of bio gas from landfills and anaerobic digesters now have an option to turn their bio gas into nearly twice the electricity compared to an equivalent internal combustion engine (ICE).

Typically, bio gas is flared or ICEs are deployed to produce power.  ZEI solutions utilizing fuel cells meet the strictest international emission standards.    Plants are available in 30kW – 2400kW units and provide the following benefits:

·        Input:  Raw bio gas is pretreated internally.

·        Efficiency:  40%-42% electricity conversion compared to ICE’s 22%-25%

·        Purity:  Methane content can be as low as 20%

·        Heat:  Waste heat can be recovered for local thermal use.

·        Simplicity:  No moving parts reduces maintenance.

·        Fossil Fuel Option:  Run off Biogas or natural gas.

Turn Down:  System adjusts automatically with bio gas flow

Landfill and Digester BioGas to Energy:  Methane (CH4) is created by many processes of the industrialized world.  It is a powerful greenhouse gas whose capture and conversion into harmless substances has become a priority in the fight against global warming.  Methane emissions arise from a variety of sources including the anaerobic (without oxygen) decomposition of waste in landfills, the treatment of wastewater, coal mines, incomplete fossil fuel combustion and other industrial processes.  Zero Energy Institute (ZEI) Landfill and Digester Gas solutions cover the entire value chain from gas collection to conversion and meet even the strictest California emission requirements.  ZEI’s experience with methane control in landfill and wastewater environments means we are dedicated to the installation of the most environmentally sound technology available without sacrificing reliability and low operating costs.  Clients benefit from our deployment of low and high  temperature fuel cell gas conversion equipment (30kw - 3mw) that generate green electricity, hydrogen and other marketable materials.
